Food Sensitivity Test

======================================

What is a Food Sensitivity Test?

Both men and women suffer from food sensitivity, which is a diffuse, and sometimes delayed reaction to certain foods in their current diet. The Food Sensitivity Test measures for IgG antibodies in their blood related to 96 common foods. Elevated antibodies may indicate that their could be sensitive to that food. If combined with airborne allergy testing, key information is gained regarding cross-reactivity factors that can have a compounding effect.  That is why AllergyFree recommends patients receive Food Sensitivity testing along with Airborne Allergy Testing (either skin or blood testing).

Related symptoms include:

  • Fatigue
  • Bloating
  • Gastrointestinal stress
  • Headaches
  • Migraines
  • Stomach pain

(This test does not detect allergic reactions to foods, lactose intolerance or celiac disease.)

What Do the Results Mean?

Food sensitivity testing helps you discover which foods in your patients diet may be a source of symptoms. This test measures their immune system’s reactivity to foods, which can help guide a temporary elimination diet.

The classification of 0 to IV denotes the level of antibody reactivity detected for each food. Use of immunosuppressant medications may reduce their classification by one level or more.  Patients should never discontinue any prescription medications without consulting their doctor first. If they are experiencing symptoms related to a specific food at any level, that is their threshold.

General recommendations include:

  • Very Low (0) – eat freely
  • Low (I) – eat every 4th day

For the following classifications, do not eat for 3-6 months:

  • Moderate (II)
  • High (III)
  • Very High (IV)

In 3-6 months, re-introduce one food at a time and monitor to determine if symptoms return. If symptoms return, cease eating that food and re-introduce again in 3-6 months. If symptoms continue, remove that food from the diet.

This test alone cannot confirm a food sensitivity or intolerance. Experts recommend that patients follow up with a licensed healthcare professional or allergist to review your results along with your medical history, symptoms, diet and other test results prior to making nutrition changes.
